“… the relation between white and black …”

White surrenders to black …

Similar as with watercolour, the situation is with ink, the difference being that in ink, you are slightly limited by the colour range, and achieve stronger contrasts. It’s a medium that’s been around in my life since childhood, and I’ve always quite fallen for it because of its sharpness, dramatic character, and powerful energy. I use it a lot in my drawings and paintings. Sometimes in its classic form, at other times using an inkpen, at still other times I apply it with a paintbrush or sponge, splashing it and not worrying about, or restricting myself at all with, how I’m going to use it … Something that’s always fascinated me is the relation between white and black, and the energy created by a painting surface and the medium. This is the so-called love story, were shades of a relationship manifest in a certain work in the line, shape, composition, contrast, transparency … that are expressive while sensitive.
